The recycling and re-use project was initially set up at Bierton Hill
Resource Centre, where many of our volunteers also attend. Many years
ago Derek Randall, who was manager of Bierton
Hill set up two projects the recycling of aluminium and
the refurbishment of hand tools. Derek's vision was to eventually expand
as we now have, without his expertise and enthusiasm this project would
have never evolved. We now have a fully operational recycling and re-use
workshop and a scrapstore.
Workers at ARRC, supported by staff and volunteers collect the materials
for each project and bring them to the centre where they are sorted
and processed. Foil and cans are crushed and sold to help fund the project.
Tools are cleaned, repaired and made up into kits to send to Developing
Nations. Scrap is sorted and stored on racks ready for Scrapstore members
to collect.
